What’s in my bag? Travel bag essentials

By Magalí Zaslabsky

Something I think I have quite a lot of experience with is travelling and packing. I can’t remember how many times in my life I have had to pack and how many times I forgot to pack something important for a trip.  And that has forced me to learn, from experience and failure, what are my travel bag essentials and what I consider to be the ultimate travel list!

Here is the list of what you need to pack in your travel bag (the purse, backpack or bag that you carry with you while traveling):

  • Cosmetic bag

It’s always good to carry some basics in case you need them. Lip balm, hand cream, a hair band, hand sanitizer, an aspirin, a packet of tissues, thermal water (essential for preventing dehydrated skin on flights)… are always nice when traveling because you never know when you are going to need them.

  • Refillable Water Bottle

This is always useful when flying. As everyone knows, buying water at an airport is very expensive and usually there are water fountains available for you to refill a bottle. So this could be a good thing to bring with you!

  • Bag for Documents

This trick is something I learned a couple of years ago and it works great. Keeping your passport, travel documents, plane tickets, transportation cards, and things that you will use while traveling in the same place is a good way to stay organized and not misplace things.

  • Phone charger and electronics

I usually keep a phone charger or a portable battery with me at all times because you never know when you will run out of battery. Also, it’s best to keep your electronics on you while travelling for security reasons, anyway, so don’t forget to take them with you.

  • Notebook and Pen

Maybe this is more of a personal preference, but I always find it useful to carry a small notebook and pen. Or, better put, I always wish I had one when I forget to pack it! If you don’t use notebooks, at least bring a pen. That’s definitely useful to have when you need to fill out a form while traveling.

  • Valuable things

If you check luggage, you probably want to keep any valuables on you in case they misplace your bag. If you are traveling with something valuable or important, like cash, or a document, always keep it with you. Better safe than sorry, right?

  • Scarf or jacket

If you are always cold like me, a scarf can be a great ally while traveling. But even If you are not like me, still bring a jacket with you. Airports, plains and trains are always cold.

  • Basics

Of course, don’t forget the basics! Cell phone, wallet, keys…
